Re: [mukto-mona] Re: Hindutva and radical Islam: Where the twain do meet by Arun Shourie

I agree with Dr. Rudra, if Fida Hasan could not (or
did not wish to) draw Islamic religious characters in
an indecent way, he should not have done what he did
with Hindu gods and goddesses. In any case, however, I
do not consider his work of depicting Hindu gods and
goddesses to be art, they are expressions of the mind
of a sick (and possibly impotent) sex maniac. If Mr.
Hasan were to do the same kind of things with Mohammad
or Ayesha, I would not consider that art either, I
would consider that to be expressions of a similarly
poor taste.

While I have criticized hatred based upon Islam and
Muslim brotherhood, I never supported work like
drawing Mohammad with a human body and a pigs head. I
do not think this kind of insults serves any good
purpose.

For human development, religions should be criticized
with facts and rationale, not insulted with indecency.
Although I personally have not done much criticism of
religions. Because I prefer to ignore religions as
opposed to criticizing them. They were instituted by
primitive people many centuries back. There is very
little point in saying the obvious, such as humans
were less civilized in the past. My problem is not as
much with the religious books/prophets/gods (and
whatever the religious people call them). My problem
is more with people who follow the primitive
'knowledge/wisdom' of their religions to the extent of
hating and doing injustice to other people.
