[vinnomot] Dhaka University teachers

Bail or parole

It is very interesting that Mainul Hosein is talking about freedom of Sheikh Hasina and Khaleda Zia on parole. They are accused of extortion and the court is hearing their cases. How can Mainul know about the verdict in advance? The verdict is yet to be delivered.
From the proceedings of the cases we understand that the evidences submitted by the over-enthusiastic military-backed government against the two leaders are very weak. There is every possibility that the court might throw out the cases and set the leaders free. Mainul can talk about bail at this time and not of parole.

Dhaka University teachers

Dhaka University Teachers Union, particularly the Blue Panel, gave the government one week to release detained teachers and students. In such circumstances, the interim government should keep its focus on paving the way for expeditious release of the detained teachers and students as soon as possible. Its failure to read the pulse of the Dhaka University campus could very well lead to consequences that will be unpleasant not only for the government but for the nation as a whole.

It is shameful

The way Sheikh Hasina, a former prime minister, is being treated is shameful and regretful. She is neither accused of murder. Some people who are accused of murder are moving around freely in Dhaka city. There could be hundreds of government officials from police, customs, forests, roads and highways, AGB and many other government departments who took bribes or misappropriated more than three hundred crore taka each. Anyway, that is not my point. What I want to say is that she is not a dangerous criminal, she is not a threat to anyone in the society except to the military-controlled government of course. Hence, she could have been set free on bail or she could have been kept under house arrest at most till the disposal of the cases brought against her. The undignified treatment of Sheikh Hasina only shows the meanness of the incumbent military-controlled government.
