[ALOCHONA] On War Crimes and over reactions.

Dear all,

I am sharing with you a historic picture, which was well circulated in the
newly liberated Bangladesh. Specifically it was made cover story in NEWSWEEK
in 1971. The picture was also printed in different news papers in the
nineties. It shows that Bagha Siddiquee himself is bayonetting unarmed
handfolded biharis to death after 16 Dec. 1971. It has been reported that on
that day, Bagha Siddiquee killed approximately 30 unarmed Biharis in Paltan
maidan. Bagha Siddiquee is none other than the valaint freedom fighter
Bangabir Quader Siddiquee, Bir Uttam, who is currently very much vocal for
the trial of war crimes. It was these kinds of incidents of overreaction
that had made the trial of war crimes difficult in 1972.

Trial of war crimes is undoubtedly necessary for the sake of justice but I
wonder whether Quader Siddiquee understands what war crime is. Is not it
ominous to see such a person shouting for trial of war crime?

Kind regards,

Mahbubur Razzaque, Dhaka
