Assalamu Alaikum. I have just read the article of Gaffar chowdhury sb in Bangla.I am giving short comment on his article.
1.First of all Gaffar chowdhury sb was never a friend of Islam.Nobody can expect any article favorable to Islam from him.Moreover his article is based on his discussion with Fateh Moll sb who had been campaigning all the time against Shariah.
2 Chowdhury sb says about which model of Islamic state .Why this question now.There are many models of democracy and socialism.Islamic state can have several models in the structural sense but in all these states the basic law is Shariah of Islam if they are true to their commitment.
3 He has raised questions about political Islam.Politics according to all major scholars is a part of Islam and all Muslim states, whether Khilafat, Umayyad rule, Abbasid rule, Osmani rule, Fatimid rule Moghol rule had Shariah as their basis.This is the basic criterion of Islamic polity.
4 Chowdhury sb has raised question about Saudi Arabia .They have some good points such as welfare economy , state organisation of Zakat, education and salat but they have some bad points.Nobody says that state as an ideal model.
5.He has criticized Maulana Abul Ala Maududi.This is his narrowness of his heart.He can read any encyclopedia published in the West and in the Muslim world, Sayyid Maududi is considered a major Islamic thinker and one of the key persons who brought renaissance in the Muslim world in the last century.
His books are read all over the world.Even in Bangladesh he is most widely read author.The total sales of his books in any year in Bangladesh is more than any other scholar.
I can advise Chowdhury sb not to depend on Fateh Mollah, he is no body to teach Islam to people or him.
I am not commenting on some other minor points in his article.
