[mukto-mona] Re: Please publish

WRT: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/mukto-mona/message/46639

This write-up of Mr. Sitangshu Huha is riddled with mistakes, factual
errors, and the views expressed by him are grossly one-sided.

History does not tell us that the House and the White House should be
from a different party. When President Lyndon B. Johnson (a
DEmocrat) was at the helm, the House was controlled by Democrats.
During Richard M. Nixon's time it was not the case. I think later
during Republican President Ronald Reagan's second term the House
(both House of Representatives and Senate became Republican majority)
and that narrow majority continued all the way through President
George W. Bush's first term. Only after the election of 2004 did the
House becomes a Democratic majority.

By reading his write-up I get the feeling that Mr. Guha has the
character of Bangladeshis who would not consider Obama as a fit
candidate because he has a trace of Muslim origin. Many deshi people
still look at and analyze events through the chinks of religion.
Another participant in Mukto-mona from Texas also abhors Obama not
because of the senator's view but his paternal origin. These folks
get a chill when they hear that a person who has African or Muslim
genes is running for the high office. Maybe, the concept of caste
system is responsible for this strange case of discrimination, which
is highly anachronistic in the dawn of twenty first century.

I also held the view in 2007 that both Obama and Clinton are
unelectable. However, I changed my position based on what have I
seen and read in the media.

When John McCain goes to a Republican rally only 1000-2000 people
show up. When Hillary Clinton attends a rally, 2000-3000 people turn
up. When Barack Obama goes to a rally, then an estimated 5000 to
20,000 people show up, and these are not American blacks or college
kids. Many highly educated white as per poll are supporting Obama to
change the course of political history in this country. The media is
calling Obama campaign a phenomenon the looks of which was never seen
before. I have witnessed presidential election since Nixon era.
This time, trust me it is a different matter.

I am not in the business of making prediction - who will win on
November 4, 2008 election. A coalition has already formed in which
black Americans, college-going age group, highly educated and liberal
whites have joined rather spontaneously. This alliance of voters has
never been seen before by media or political pundits.

More and more it looks like Senator Obama may get the nomination.
However, strange things happen in an election; therefore, Senator
Clinton's political obit should not be written at this time. Also,
it remains to be seen how the conservative electorate size-up Senator
John McCain.

Mr. Guha's write-up should be preserved in M-M archive and re-analyze
on November 5, 2008.

This writer is curious to know whether Mr. Guha is a social
conservative or a arch communal person. It seems as if he has a lot
of problem with American blacks and Muslims. I thought Mukto-mona is
a liberal congregation of non-believers, skeptics, and super
liberals. For the life of me I do not understand why people like Mr.
S.A. Hannan and Sitangshu Guha discuss their platitudes amidst
liberal folks like Mokto-monas.
