Language activist professor Rafiqul Islam donates the photos of Bangla Language Movement to Wikipedia

Prominent language activist, Professor Rafiqul Islam has released the photos, he took on Bangla Language Movement, to the world community through Wikipedia. The present vice chancellor of the University of Liberal Arts and former professor of Bangla at DU handed over his photo archive to the general secretary of Bangladesh Open Source Network (BdOSN), Munir Hasan, on 17th instant. Professor Islam praised the consciousness of the young generation and said, he hoped that they will uphold national glory and preserve the language, history and culture through the Internet and digital media. Mr. Munir Hasan said the photos would be scanned first and then published to the Wikipedia Commons. It will be possible to add the photos to wiki articles in more than 250 languages. While thanking Professor Islam, Mr. Hasan expressed that more people would follow this veteran and would publish their photos and other information archive, of historical importance, to the world community. He also added that, at this moment, high resolution maps of different part of the country are not widely available on Internet.

A group of BdOSN volunteer is working hard to build a strong presence of Bangladesh on the Internet through the largest encyclopedia of the world, Wikipedia. Anyone can add a picture to Wikipedia. BdOSN also provides a free and very-easy-to-use service so that anyone can add any photo of natural beauty or historical importance of his/her homeland. Just one has to take the snap and send it to wikiphotos@bdosn.org. The volunteers will do the rest. As Wiki Commons only supports GFDL or CCL licensing scheme, one has to put the following text - "I donate the attached photos under GNU Free Documentation License and Creative Commons Attribution License". Credits of the photos go to the contributor.

BdOSN is going to publish a selected edition of Bangla Wikipedia by the end of this year. This collection will include 1000 Bangla Wikipedia article, 50 books from WikiSource and other information and picture on Bangladesh.
