Thank you for the piece.
CPNM leadership is moving in a matured way to deal with the Nepali monarchy.
But at the same time people should be cautious that the monarchy is not
Gyanendro alone. A complex system of feudalism and imperialism is enmeshed
in the matrix. Nepali 'Royal' Army and landed aristrocracy are their bastion
of power in the country and imperialism is their outside backer. So any
viloent refusal may happen on any pretext. CPNM and other repuiblican
democratic forces should not provide any excuse for the clique. And also be
ready to face any resistance from the dying feudal forces and imperialism.
In 1970, election to Pakistan National Assembly saw majority of seats won by
Awami League led by Bangabandhu Shiekh Mujibur Rahman. The election pledge
of Awami League was regional autonomy of then East Pakistan (now
Bangladesh). The ruling class of Pakistan, led by Military junta of General
Yahya and ZA Bhutto was not ready to compromise on this issue. After
delay-dallying for 3 months finally the Pakistani rulers called off the
convening of National Assembly, perpetrated the worst heinous genocide after
WWII on unarmed Bangali population. People of bangladesh took up armes,
waged the Liberation War, India came to help as Allied Force, and finally
Bangladesh was liberated on 16 December 1971.
I don't expect things will turn in such a way in Nepal at this time of
history. Because history does nor repeat itseilf, and people as well as
ruling class take lesson from history (though in opposite direction).
Let the peiople of Nepal anf their new leadership come out victorious in
their struggle for democracy, social justice and exercising full
sovereignty.
