Mr. Bain,

I am extremely sorry for my comments. I did not want to ignite your anger, nor did I expect a response from you in such an uncivilized way. Our experiences could be totally different and there is nothind wrong with it. We are discussing in an open forum and we should be patient and respectful to each other's opinion. We may not agree with each other and that does not matter either. The only article I found about the issue I attached. Let me elaborate some of my own experiences here.
In 1971 I was about 10. I was living with my family in a small town about 200 miles from my home town . My father was a government officer. Most of our neighbours were Hindus and we protected them from persecution by Pak militaries and their local suporters. We helped them to become temporary Muslims as they insisted (that was crucial for survival). Almost all of them survived and not a single house was torched. We fed many of them for months and gave refuge inside our house. As a result my father was picked up by Pak military twice and severely tortured physically.Very few families left the country and never came back. My father bought a small piece of land from a Hindu gentleman in my home town in 1970 but could not register it. Because the man was heading to India in few months he was paid in full. He was honest and always kept in touch. He planned to come back in 1972 for registry but unfortunately he died. Both of his sons left with him but never
came back and the land became enemy property.

In 1987 I got my job in an UPH. I needed a transfer to the Medical College but it required bribery or interference from above. I chose not to persue it and was looking for a way out. I went to Calcutta to see a very very close senior friend of mine left the country less than two years ago. His brother also a Doctor left the country few years ago and was working as a medical officer in the suburb. His wife got a PhD from Australia ( as a teacher of DU) and met her husband in Calcutta suburb. My friend was doing his residency in Bangur Hospital and was living in a big hall room at the top floor of the building with five other doctors all of them from Bangladesh and I knew two of them personally. I was seriously considering to move over there and my Dada told me " You can't; I told them I was being persecuted by Muslims over there". These real stories are the basis of my comments.
Any minority group (not necessarily religious) anywhere in the world is the target of persecution by a small group of powerful bad people from the majority. Religion is the easiest weapon in our part of the world to use as a pretext to oppress the minority by gaining support or at least indifference from the mass majority. Obviously we should not blame religion for this phenomenon. It is much better to allow religious right to everebody than to deny it to anyone. Probably this is the only entity in peoples lives in our part of the word that is providing mental strength for them to live. It should not be used for any purpose at all and should be respected as one's very private right.
