Re: [mukto-mona] Re: newsweek cover story: When Barry Became Barack

WRT: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/mukto-mona/message/47587

My quote does not necessarily mean that the quote by Obama is
troubling. My quote says the story tells us very much about Obama.
The story could, as you say, tell us something positive or negative
about the man. Readers can draw their own conclusions from reading
the story.

However, research findings do not tell the whole story about
discrimination. It is accepted that Americans (and others)
discriminate on "bases of gender and race" but they also discriminate
on other grounds. Most notable are economics and poor neighborhoods
and poor (white) countries.

I know it seems as though discrimination is precise but if one looks
closely, even here, there is discrimination based on education,
ability to write well, ability or willingness to construct a logical
argument, support of one type of politics over another and the list
goes on.

What separates the sheep from the goats is the effect that
discrimination has on a person. Some take it as a fact of life and
pity the people who discriminate; others are deeply affected
personally and pity themselves.

There are accepted ways of looking at things and the accepted way is
to discriminate based on the hierarchical system in which we find
ourselves. If we accept the system, we are engaged in discrimination.
