[ALOCHONA] Bid to fuel fresh unrest in CHT

Bid to fuel fresh unrest in CHT:The terrorists have chosen religious sentiment as the latest weapon

Religious sentiment is the latest weapon of terrorists in the hill. A faction of Parbatiya Chattagram Jano Shanghati Samity (JSS) United Peoples Democratic Front (UPDF) and others banned terrorist organisations are using religious sentiment to create unrest in the tribal areas.(The News Today)

The people of the hilly area are very pious. As the tribesmen are peace loving, many attempts of the terrorist groups to fuel violence between Bangali and tribal people have become unsuccessful. So the terrorists have chosen religious sentiment as the latest weapon. They are making Kiang Ghar (Prayer house of Buddhists) in most of the hills. The law enforces are not allowed to enter such Kiang.

Local sources said most Kiangs are being used to train terrorists. Law enforces also recovered weapons when they searched some Kiangs with the help of the tribal people.Kiangs are being constructed at the government Khas land or at such places where Bangali people used to live.In some places they took several acre of land to build a kiang, which is susceptive. Even they do not have any government permission.

Visiting Korollachhari in Khagrachhari, this correspondent found a kiang, which was half made on 140 acres of land. About 35 Bangali families used to live in that place during 1982 to 1986. Following the torture of Shanti Bahini those Bangali families were shifted to a Guchha Gram near by the army camp for their safety.

Sources said being unsuccessful to create a clash between Bangali and tribal people, the terrorists set fire to 132 houses at Baghaichhari to create communal riot between the two communities. They cut the hill about three to seven feet. According to the law cutting hill is banned. They also cut thousands of trees planted by the Bangali farmers. They tried to demolish the Muslim grave to build a kiang. They have done all these to hit the Bangali emotion, which might drive them to fall in clash with the tribals.

Bishwajit, local chairman of the union, told The News Today those 140 acres belong to 35 Bangali families who used to live there in 1982-1986.Thousands of shifted Bangali families are leading inhuman life at guchha gram. They don''t have any land to cultivate, as they are not being able to return to their previous place allotted by the government. The shifted Bangali people want to go back to their land. They appealed for the government intervention to solve their problem.
