YANGON, May 6 (Xinhua) -- A total of 22,464 people have been killed in two divisions of Yangon and Ayeyawaddy in Cyclone Nargisthat swept Myanmar's five divisions and states last Friday and Saturday, state radio reported Tuesday evening, quoting an updated figure released at noon. Among the victims, 21,793 are in Ayeyawaddy division, while 671in Yangon division. A total of 41,054 are still missing -- 40,695 in Ayeyawaddy division and 359 in Yangon division, the report said, adding that 670 were injured in the Yangon division alone. The deadly cyclone, which occurred over the Bay of Bengal, hit five divisions and states -- Yangon, Bago, Ayeyawaddy, Kayin and Mon, of which Ayeyawaddy and Yangon sustained the most casualties. Myanmar declared the five divisions and states as natural-disaster-hit regions a day after the cyclone hit the country. However, Bago, Mon and Kayin as well as some five townships of Yangon division and 19 townships of Ayeyawaddy division were withdrawn from being the natural-disaster-hit areas on Tuesday with a claim that these areas have basically returned to normal, according to an earlier official announcement on Tuesday afternoon. A total of 40 townships in Yangon division and seven townships in Ayeyawaddy division still remain as natural-disaster-hit areas. http://news.xinhuanet.com/english/2008-05/06/content_8116709.htm

Aid workers race to reach
Myanmar cyclone victims
ANGON - Aid workers battled Wednesday to get food and water to desperate cyclone survivors in Myanmar, whose government is under fire after more than 22,000 people died in one of Asia's worst natural disasters. More than 41,000 people are also missing, but the United Nations said foreign staff were still awaiting visas from the secretive military regime -- which said outside aid workers needed to "negotiate" to enter the country. Myanmar's generals shun US aid, see risk to political power

WASHINGTON - Tsunami-hit Indonesia and earthquake-jolted Pakistan once risked a backlash from their predominantly Muslim populations and allowed in US military forces to help in relief operations. But cyclone-ravaged Myanmar's ruling military is suspicious of any US aid. As the cyclone's official death toll soared to 22,000, two US Navy ships are near the waters of military-ruled Myanmar awaiting its green light to enter the reclusive nation for evacuation and other critical relief activities. Ayeyarwady (Irrawaddy) delta region and the country's largest city,
Yangon. The authorities have declared five states and divisions (Yangon,
Ayeyarwady, Bago, Mon and Kayin) to be disaster areas. Yangon sustained a

major damage to buildings in the city. Many roads are blocked either by
