The story of the movie on Sk Mujib seems to be taking a theatrical dimension. Could be an interesting movie script of its own. Enjoy the laughs to follow as various interested parties do their tap dance.

"I'm not playing Mujibur Rahman" - Amitabh Bachchan
By Subhash K. Jha, May 3, 2008 - 11:56 IST

A report in a section of the press stating that Amitabh Bachchan would be playing the role of Bangladesh's founding father Sheikh Mujibur Rahman has the mega-star completely stumped, puzzled, and amused.

"I've no idea what all this is about. Lots of media persons have been calling since yesterday. I can't say where and how this report originated from. But it is not true," said the Big B from London on Saturday morning just before he boarded his flight back to Mumbai. Not only does the report state with absolute authority that the Big B plays Mujbir Rahman, it also quotes the film's producer as saying that the rest of the Bachchan clan, Abhishek and Aishwarya, will also feature in this bio-pic.

Continues the Big B, "I've no clue about this. There's nothing to it. At least not as far as I'm concerned. I'm hearing all this talk about this film for the first time." This isn't the first time that producers have made premature or unfounded announcements about the Big B's presence in a project. But it would have been interesting to watch him play a historical character. In all these years of superstardom, the Big B has never played a biographic figure. The closest he came to it was in Ram Gopal Varma's Sarkar where his role had shades of BalThackeray.

Mr. Islam
So you are saying Aishwarya might be be IG.
What about the assorted villains & quislings? Foreign & home grown. Any suggestions for the casting director & the screenwriter.

Mr. Khundkar:

Great to know that Bachchan is taking the part of Mujib. I agree that only Amitabh is the right person for the role. he matches the physical stature and the commanding voice too. Great! I wonder who will be chosen as Indira Gandhi. Forget Hasina as I believe she had no role at that time of history significant engough to appear as a young lady in despair.

Nevertheless, I also congratulate Mr. Chowdhury for his initiative but what I am skeptic about is Mr. Chowdhury's impartiality in the story-line and I do not know whether he was the one to play-write the historic events. He has been the cause of several serious contoversies which includes his welcoming of the Indians to directly interefere in Bangaldesh's internal affairs in his tour to New York sometime ago and in his suggestion for the Communist Party in Bangaldesh to act as an underground political party as a wing of Awami League in his discussion with the leader of Communist party in Bangladesh in a TV programme organised by Bangla TV in London in April 2008.

I welcome the initiative and I hope the play should stict to complete facts as those are extremely delicate and highly sophisticated account of history. As long as the truth is exposed, I am sure the film will be a milestone in the filming world. Our liberation is a hall mark among struggle of ethnic, social and cultural revolutions arounf the world and Sheikh Mujib is the name of a king among Hall of Fames in political legends.

Hmm! Aisharya as Hasina maybe!
May be our fellow Alochok from Kuwait Ezazur in light of his abilities as a man of poetry and the arts could also get a role like Che did in the musical EVITA.  :))

Indian megastar Bachchan to play Bangladesh founder

Thu May 1, 2008 12:58pm IST
DHAKA (Reuters) - Bollywood megastar Amitabh Bachchan and his celebrity family members have all tentatively agreed to take part in a film based on the life of Bangladesh's founding leader, Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, local media said on Thursday.
Amitabh will take the role of Mujib in the film, named "The Poet of Politics," while his son Abhishek Bachchan will act in the role of a young Mujib, Abdul Gaffar Chowdhury, the producer of the film, told ANA, a U.S.-based Bangladeshi news agency.
The ANA report, published in several Dhaka dailies on Thursday, said Chowdhury, an expatriate Bangladeshi journalist and newspaper columnist, also told the news agency that Amitabh's daughter-in-law and former Miss Universe, Aishwarya Rai, and renowned actress Shabana Azmi will also act in two key roles.
Shyam Benegal, the only director to won India's National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Hindi five times, will direct the movie.
"After getting the consent of Amitabh, I am now a relieved man. To project a person of the magnitude of Bangabandhu (Sheikh Mujib), I could not imagine no one other than him," Chowdhury was quoted as saying in New York.
"Now not only Amitabh, his other family members have also agreed to take up the challenge," added Chowdhury.
It was not clear when Chowdhury will start shooting the film, which will be made in English and dubbed into Bengali, Hindi and other languages.
Mujib led Bangalis to an independence struggle in 1971, which resulted in the independence of former East Pakistan, now Bangladesh.
Mujib was killed, along with most of his family, in a 1975 coup.
