If you had your school or college life in Bangladesh, you know how much inertia our educators used to suffer from. If I remember correctly, it was not until mid- or late sixties that for the first time a couple of poems by Jibanananda Das were included in the East Pakistan School Textbook Board prescribed anthology of poetry to be taught to the ninth and tenth (or eleventh and twelfth) graders. They were included in the anthology, but I am not sure when Jibanananda was actually put in the syllabus. It is noteworthy that both Nazrul and Jibanananda were born in the same year 1999.
