Re: [mukto-mona] Christian Fundamentalism, the Global Crusade and Muslims

WRT: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/mukto-mona/message/48634

"While the Western press is awash with stories, real
and exaggerated,
about 'Islamic fundamentalists' , rarely is mention
made about
Christian fundamentalists, who, with their vast
resources and close
links with the current American administration, are a
potentially more
menacing threat than their Muslim counterparts"-Yogi Sikand

1. I want to ask Mr. Yogi, "can he provide specific source and reference for this information" ? Mr. Yogi has provided, more correctly claimed a lot of information for which he did not mention any source. I think, this has created an opportunity for the outbreak of criticism. My position is not here to defend him or judge him.  But is the information he is providing us false ? I would suggest the following article "Pastor John Hagee spearheads Christians United for Israel" by Bill Berlowitzs, a longtime observer of the conservative movement and a frequent writer for Media Transparency-
http://www.mediatransparency.org/authorprofile.php?authorID=1 where he is dicussing on the Christian zionist movement of the televangelist Hagee. But he did not mention anything about his 'long term plan for Crusade against Islam".  It is Mr. Yogi's responsbility to provide us any evidence such as any article or media comments or anything.
I would suggest the following article alsoe-'The Dangers of fundamentalist beliefs on George Bush and on US Foreign policy" by Larry Ross, Newzealand Neuclear  Peacemaking Association. I think this deserves to be read.

2. Mr. Subimal has pointed out, " It is a genuine question indeed. Fundamentalism is fundamentalism- ---be it Christian one, Muslim one, or Hindu one. Then why does some one single out Christian fundamentalism, some one Muslim fundamentalism and some one else Hindu fundamentalism? Why don't we see a balanced and unbiased critique of various forms of religious fundamentalism in such discussions?" Yes, It's apperent fact may be, but not the truth I think. I want to ask some honest questions. a) Is he singling out the Christian fundamentalism ? Yogi's opponent  did not refer any context from his article which part, phrase or words or information are objectionable or false claim. This is not the way of objective criticism. b) In respect of above excerpt, specifically "why does some one single out Christian fundamentalism, some one Muslim fundamentalism and some one else Hindu fundamentalism?"-I want to ask his opponents, it is not very long time, in
this forum there had been long discussions about Islamic fundamentalists; why that question did not arise about singling out to Islamic fundamentalism, and not balancing at the same time also about Christian fundamentalism ? In regard to Islamic fundamentalism, there is a common perception and it has been always a popular practice of discussing this subject avoiding carefully of it's hisrorical context and the role of western imperialism in their all kind of supporting and patronizing for this. This way, actually, their prejudice and (colonial minded) weakness to so-called 'civilized white American'  becomes very evident. May be because, it originates  from a kind of inferiority complex about the eastern culture, or may be from the backwardness of the Muslim world and because of the role of fraction of their population for fundamentalism and present lack of enlightentment. Sometimes I noticed in the columns of Pro-BNP rightist columnnist
suggesting that it has become like a fashion for some so-called "progressive"(and pro-indian) community to critisize and image only the bad sides muslim to prove themselv progressive and their liberalist humanity. Using this evil tactics, these columnists just avoid the facts about the oppression and unjust on Hindu minorities in Bangladesh. The confronters of Mr. Yogi has no difference with communal minded pro-BNP columnists (such as Forhad Mojhar), who starts his article in a way(as he starts using marxist terms) that any new reader woud think that he is a leftist columnist, but when the reader goes deeper into his article, then it becomes clear that he is endorsing the Islamic fundamentalists in a very subtle way.   An honored columnist Gaffar Chowdhuri, who is a well-known secular humanist(I know that the extreme rightist and reactionary opponents of Yogi wouldn't like his reference), though not very often, but some times discuss about
christian fundamentalism. Does he become one-sided or communal through this ?
3. Who are criticizing his article, did they read his whole article with patience ? It seemed to me that(if I am wrong, correct me), they just responded using their 5 senses mechanically like a biological robot merely to oppose it. I think, we have to find out the words behind his words-that is, the implicit meaning or goal or the central point of his whole article. That is,the important point here is : is it about the christian fundamentalism he is implying to us or the global expansionism and imperialism in the guise of crusade with the flag of fundamentalism  ? Mr. Yogi has to be more clear about this. We need to be assured that he is not spreading anti-christian communal hate in the guise of anti-imperialism with leftist attitude.
4.  We all are known about the Yong-Bengal community in Calcutta in British Colonial time in India. Their mindset was extremely scornful about and hateful about ordinary indians, about indian culture. They had a very high admiration for the british as their masters and specifically, the white European. I think, still there are some groups, in our country and abroad, whose mindset is blinded by the perception of 'Civilized European' and 'Civilized American'-but the implicit perception is that so-called 'civilized westerners' are white which hides behind their mind in their subconscious. The opponents of Mr. Yogi can be compared to the devotees and followers  of a contemporary Indian Gurus or Olamas who,  hearing any kind of criticism, whatever it is logical or not, get furious and enraged and tend about to kill the commenter. I wouldn't say that the critisizer of Mr. Yogi are blind at that level of the fanatic devotees,
but when hearing any criticism(rational or irrational) about their imperialist masters, for whom they believe the myth that they are or they will destroy the Islamic fundamentaists from the world, these new liberal reactionaries can be seen as just the other side of a coin-that is, they are just radicalist in the another end.
5. What's the difference between Ahmedinizad and Terrorist Bush ? They are just two sides of a coin. Didn't Mr. Bush comment for the necessity of crusade against the non-complying Arab nations in the Middle East ? Was it just a slip of the tongue ? Does not this depict his mindset ? What about his claim of revelation(which has been displayed several times in US Media) that God's endorsing him to go to war in Iraq as a holy duty ? Millions of Americans watched this in TV. Is it a lie ?
6. I can remember that the same persons started an  outbreak of criticism for a honest mistake of well-known leftist, secular and communist intellectual Ahmed Sharif about the communal riot. Then I gave a elaborate explanation about the misunderstanding and misconception about his comments. Anyway, my reason here to refer this is to imply that the reactioaries(who takes the guise of so-called secular-humanists) miss no opportionity to slander as much as possible to a leftist personality whenever they find a smallest mistake.
7. We have to be carefull that Muslim and Christian fundamentalists are not of same category. If Mr. Yogi's main concern is not just the Christian fundamentalism, but the impact of that, that is Global Imperialism, then it is another thing and I have nothing to say. Actually, a big part of the world is going crazy now-it is hard sometimes to take a neutral position. Iran's authority has been oppressing their women in the name of Sharia, do the Christian fundamentalists are intervenning in the personal life of people using fatwa ? These staff also should be addressed.  That much for today
