Re: [mukto-mona] Indian Deobandis Against Terrorism: Reiterating a Historical Tradition

WRT: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/mukto-mona/message/48691

1. This is another good piece by Yogi Sikand. But a word of caution is in order here. We really need to learn how to read and think----just to repeat a proposition that I appealed with in my last post. After reading Yogi some of the participants in this forum have formed negative impression about this scholar. Some have even expressed extreme views about him. I believe this has happened because of hurried reading and prejudiced thinking.
I hope reading of this current piece will help us change our hearts and develop positive attitude towards Yogi and his writings.

2. From the article it appears that the "religious" Deobandi ulemas have been working for communal harmony and fighting against terrorism. Also historically they have always raised voices for "one India." Yogi observes: "But then, since terrorism and communal conflict are not issues specific to any community, it is also for non-Muslim, particularly Hindu, religious organizations, to take a cue from the Deobandis and launch similar mass awareness campaigns against all forms of terrorism, including those engaged in by Hindu groups which have unleashed untold violence in recent decades. Sadly, there are little signs of any significant moves in that direction
