Humayun Ahmed's comments sound like statements from a captive individual. His statements appeared to be as if he was forced to say those things. None of those statements did make any sense at all. I think he is threatened by some unknown power(s).
The same is true with Sunil Gangopadhya. He will not touch sensitive issues. I have heard this lame excuse that Taslima Nasrin is a controversial author. So what? In most cases, controversial statements reveal naked truth, which needs to be protected as the freedom of speech. Noncontroversial statements do not need protection since they are usually white-washed not to offend anyone. Mr. Gangopadhya is a fervent critic of Hindus, which is fine, but, totally silent about other communities, revealing his capitulation in those issues.
I also understand the society in which they live in, which is like the Indiana Zone. I cannot blame them if they opt for safer ground. Everybody is not ready to sacrifice like Taslima Nasrin, Salmon Rushdie, Dawood Haider, Humayun Azad, etc. have done.
