Re: [ALOCHONA] Letter Campaign About Kuwait Debacle

While I appreciate any effort towards improving the working conditions of millions of deprived Bangladeshis specifically in middle east I would humbly request all those who are raising their concern and standing by, please do think of the following as minimum prerequisite -

1. Improvement on our recruitment procedures
2. A minimum orientation before those skilled/unskilled workers board the plane.
3. Capacity building of our embassies around the Middle East.

Can you imagine only 3 to 4 staff including the labour consul, how can they manage or look into 2 millon warkers issues and grievences. We should tell our own authority first to manage the affairs in proactive or in a prudent manners. We should raise our voices to enhance the capacity of our embassies in this area from where goes billions of dollars annually.

REF:  Current situation of Asian, especially Bangladeshi workers in Kuwait .

Honorable Ambassador,

We are deeply concerned about the recent situation of Asian immigrant workers especially workers from Bangladesh in Kuwait .  A huge number of Bangladeshi workers have been already deported from Kuwait in last couple of days. Workers staged strike rightfully demanding better pay and decent treatment.

Bangladesh has strong political and religious ties with Kuwait ; also we had a significant contribution for Kuwait during gulf crisis in the early 90's.  We completely respect the internal law and order systems of Kuwait , but in the mean time we also would like to see that workers are getting benefits per the international labor laws (guided by International Labor Organization, ILO).  As far as we understand there is no fair minimum wage enforced in Kuwait (like the USA and many other countries) and we would like to request the Honorable Government of Kuwait to take necessary steps that would enforce a fair minimum wage as well as good working environment in Kuwait .

We would also like to humbly remind that there are millions of Bangladeshi workers around the globe and they are working everywhere with great reputation.  The agitation by mostly unskilled workers in Kuwait does not represent typical working culture of Bangladeshi workers.  We strongly believe a better working environment would make sure more professional workmanship from our workers.

Thanks and best regards.
