Re: [mukto-mona] Re: Article on Taslima Narin's return to India

"WRT: http://groups. yahoo.com/ group/mukto- mona/message/ 49367

Dear Mr. Rahman,

Please speak plainly. Exactly what is the nature of the harmony she has
spoiled?
What is the purpose of those who support her?

It seems to me that she has a very transparent agenda. If you want to know
what she intends ask her. In spite of great personal risk, she won't couch
her points in slick phrases.

Mr. Levin,

You have pointed out the root cause of religious disharmony in the Bangladeshi Society. Most people are not used to talking plainly about controversial issues, such as religious dogmas and religious disharmony that exist in the society. I am sure, they are aware of them yet they do not want to discuss these issues. By doing so, they are preserving those issues in the society.  Ms. Taslima Nasrin was one of a handful of people in Bangladesh who has recognized these problems and decided to open  public dialogs about them, which angered many in the society. Most people avoid these issues by saying that they are controversial, therefore, should not be discussed. This is basically a denial technique, which has been promoted by the Government machines. This shows how immature the doctrine of freedom of speech in Bangladesh. Some intellectuals even discredit her writings by siting lack of literary values in them, and forget the topic, which is another technique of  avoiding these issues.

Let me tell you frankly, people in Bangladesh are, in general, tolerant of  other religions. It is politicians, who create religious disharmony to polarize public sentiments in their favor. Former President, Ershad, and the Prime Minister, Begum Zia, used communal-ism to go to power, which has polluted the societal psyche with communal-ism. These are the so called leaders of Bangladesh. This is so sad!

Communal-ism and religious fanaticism have been growing rapidly ever since 2001 general election.  No denial can hide the fact that, religious  minorities are being persecuted and discriminated in Bangladesh. These issues need to be addressed, and discussed openly and frankly. I urge everyone to stop covering up these issues with empty words, such as "destroying the religious harmony" or "destroying the image of Bangladesh,"  for the sake of the future of Bangladesh.

The time has changed for the better; religious fanaticism and communal-ism can never be the future any more. You can no longer go back in time with your obsolete views of a society in a big modern society that is sweeping across the globe with the advent of the modern technologies.
