I do agree with all your points. THe article may have shown some imbalance because of the polemical nature of it. I am not one who argues for banning of any kind of literary or artistic production. My focus was to show the duplicity and hypocricy that marked the entire debate. Rushdie had the cover of libel action while the prophet's wives do not have that luxury! My point about sacred imaginations is also not meant to sacralize them, but merely to point out that each society and individual has its or his own perceptions about what should be written or represented about it or him.
I am an admirer of Rushdie as a novelist, but that does not blind me to his duplicities. Hope it clarifies your concerns. THanks.
