Re: [mukto-mona] As per translation of Yogi Sikand

WRT: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/mukto-mona/message/49998

1. "The limits or scope of a jamaat in Islam are illustrated in the following  Quranic verse: 'Let there arise out of you a band of people inviting to all that is good, enjoining what is right, and forbidding what is wrong: they are the ones to attain felicity' (Surah Al-e Imran: 104)." I think the Koranic quote reproduced by Dr. Jiten Roy from Yogi Sikand's translation of Maulana's Urdu article refers to the duties of the members of Tablig Jamaat, not the political party Jamaat-e-Islam. Tablig Jamaat is a non-political organization whose members visit different places in groups to do exactly what has been spelled out in the above quote. I am sure many Islamic political parties have infiltrated this non-political group. But in general the Tablig people are not only nonpolitical, many of them are dead against 'misinterpretation' of Islam by Jamaat-e-Islam. I am saying all this out of my experience with some of my Tabligi friends about 20 years
ago. I thought Dr. Jiten Roy must also have similar experiences. But his misguided comment based on misconception proves otherwise.

2. Terrorism---be it by the state or by the groups---must not be supported. But we need to understand the difference between these two forms of terrorism and their implications. I am against the principle of putting absolute power in the hands of the state. But from the quote reproduced by Dr. Roy here it appears that Islam wants to give absolute power to the state (probably a theocratic state ruled by divine authority.)

3. Does the Maulana whose articles Yogi is translating believe in such a theocratic state? What is the state of nature of the state that the Maulana believes in? Is he confused between Jamaat-e-Islam and Tablig Jamaat? I would request Yogi to enlighten us on these three points.
