strawman argument?
This was the statement... trying to make it against the religion
Islam?
'The people of Bangladesh fought in the muktijuddho to preserve the
Bengali identity against these fanatics and their masters. The
threats and attacks against the culture of Bangladesh in the name of
religion are made by the people who fought against the muktijuddho
and Bangladesh.'
Hannan: 'Islamists are not a deluded few, they are an educated lot
and a powerful social force here in Bangladesh in every sector and
their influence is growing by the day.It is natural in a Muslim
country.'
The islamists had thought that they could use their political Islam
to keep Bangladesh in Pakistan. However Bangladeshi muslims are
Bengalis and they cherish their identity and culture. They rejected
the ideology of the fanatics.
However, with blessings from foreign powers and their patrons in
successive military governments they survived and revived. They have
also, thanks again to their masters, amassed money and firepower.
Using their firepower and money they have bought influence and
certified people. Yes, they have recreated their network... but the
people are not islamists yet despite heavy doses of it imparted by
clerics. Successive military governments failed... the people won...
Hannan: 'Islam is the future of Bangladesh'
Islam is the future? I believe currently it is the biggest religion
in terms of numbers in Bangladesh.
Islamists tried under pakistani patronage... they tried after
independence with the help of their patrons in Bangladesh to wipe
out the culture of Bangladesh. The people gave their verdict in
1994... again in 2007, january at Paltan. The people are hindu, they
are muslims but they are all Bangladeshi. And that is the truth
today... and will be in future. Bangladesh will choose her own
path... will not be dictated by the tools of Pakistan.
