Re: [ALOCHONA] Daily Star - Baul Sculptures offends Molla Bhais removed from Airport Road

Dear Alochoks:

The "Molla Bhai's" offend me and those like me. Is there anyway they can be removed? Permanently if possible? Apparently, my wish won't come true so again why are we catering to the wishes of these people at the expense of our heritage?

I am appalled that time and again we fail to realize that when we became a nation we became a "People's Republic" not a nation of Islam. So why do we cater to religious fascists? Move the Hajj camp if the people there are offended. It is difficult to tolerate people who have a very limited view or idea of Islam and tend to harp on insignificant issues.

Among the group of people who claimed that the sculptures offend them we need to have a complete list of all their sins and virtues and I assure you none of these people will stand up to be paragons of purity. So put those sculptures back as a reflection of our culture to be shown to visitors to our country. Remove the religious zealots and "bhondo" religious mollahs somewhere they aren't offended. I just don't see why an artists creation should be ruined. I hope they actually moved the scultures to a museum or some such place.

well I believe it was the right thing to do. U don't have to be un-religious or lose your affinity to your religion simply in the name of loving all the ppl. U can be a lover of all humanity of u stick to the code of ur own religion. No religion tells u to hate other faiths. The fanatics and bigots tarnish the image of the religions. Imagine how ashamed Sheikh Mijub would have been at the notion of so many politicians throwing abuses at each other simply in the name of loving the nation more.

Why must we go to temples and mosques to reach Him?
Love all people and you will reach your

Sculptures near ZIA removed after protests
Staff Correspondent
The Roads and Highways Department (RHD) and Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB) were forced to remove five sculptures of Bauls (folk singers) including Lalon Shah in front of the Zia International Airport in the face of protests from an Islamist group.

Sculptor Mrinal Haque told reporters that almost 50 percent task of the Tk 1crore project had been finished at a cost of around Tk 50 lakh.

Two of the five sculptures had been removed by yesterday evening while the rest was to be removed by midnight, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of the Airport Police Station Sirajul Islam told the Daily Star.

He said the erection of the sculptures began about a month ago.

Earlier, Murti Protirodh Committee (Sculpture Prevention Committee) led by Khatme Nabuat Chairman Mufti Nur Hossain Nurani gave an ultimatum of 24 hours for removal of the sculptures.

Witnesses said around 2,000 people gathered in the area when the task of removing the sculptures began at about 11:00am.

The OC quoting the committee leaders said they do not want any sculptures in the airport area where the hajj camp is located.
