This epic story emboldens my belief that British introduced Indians to the modernity for which they did not get any credit. Yes, East Indian Company benefitted economically – but, the gain for India, in the process, is priceless. In spite of such enlightenment – Hindus are still submerged in the age-old religious superstitions and bigotry. Just think about what would be the Hindu-society today without the British rule.

Jhor (The Storm), is a great Bangla classic movie, at least to me. Henry Derozio was a great soul, died at the age of only 22; yet contributed so greatly to civilize the Bangalee Hindu society in the early nineteenth century.
Looking at this kind of history, people of the Hindu background really have to reflect, and feel ashamed of that background.
