[vinnomot] Sanjeeb Anwar Hossain: A Son of Our Soil

I would like to appreciate Mr. Sanjeeb Anwar Hossain, the son of Professor Dr. Anwar Hossain, for his courageous activities, though he along with his family is still under pressure after the arrest of four Dhaka University teachers since the imposition of the emergency in Bangladesh by the army led interim government.

Sanjeeb, of course, is a daring son of a daring father. He supports all those teachers of the higher institutions who have been arrested for not taking the unethical opportunity under the army and affiliated evil forces, which would have conferred legitimacy and legality on the unconstitutional acts of the present government.

Mr. Sanjeeb's open letter, interviews with print and electronic media as well as the sober bargain with different establishments will not only boost the morale of the dignified teachers but also of the intellectual community as a whole, which is facing the strong-arm tactics of the establishment. I salute the brave and proud Sanjeeb, his family and the honourable teachers families for their steadfastness, and their principled stand on the 'independence of the judiciary,' a principal pre requisite for democracy.

I appeal to all the conscientious Bangladeshi, and the members of the international community to support the demand of civil society for the immediate release of the detained teachers and scholars with dignity. Without their unconditional release, the genuine democracy will never return to Bangladesh. And democracy is a necessity for the country's stability.
