[ALOCHONA] The Nation between CEC’s Hidden Agenda and Constitutional Mandate

As the Bangla proverb goes – "je jai lankai shei hoi rabon" (whoever goes to Lanka essentially becomes Rabon), our situation in Bangladesh surrounding the Election Commission is no different. We demonstrated an all-out revolt against Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Mr. Justice M. A. Aziz and as a result we got Mr. ATM Shamsul Huda in the same position.

The attached article by renowned ex-BBC journalist Mr. Serajur Rahman speaks clearly about the chief of a pivotal constitutional institution like the Election Commission. Mr. Serajur Rahman thinks that the term "Prodhan Nirbachon-Birodhi Komishoner" is more appropriate than "Prodhan Nirbachon Komishoner" for Mr. Huda.

It is extremely painful to witness again with utmost disgust, how this chief of a supposedly neutral constitutional body is cheating the nation by repeatedly making mockery of democracy and constitution. If we compile all his statements together, it becomes obvious that he is nothing but a strong leftist-cum-BAL sympathizer and essentially an Islamophobe. His decisions, statements and actions clearly speak of his fidgeting efforts to crush the nationalist and Islamic forces. He thinks it's his constitutional duty to judge and declare Mr. Mannan Bhuiyan's dismissal from the BNP Secretary General position unlawful. This person, being in his neutral constitutional position, is not ashamed of proposing such dangerous unconstitutional and undemocratic exercise like banning Islamic parties and keeping them away from election. He does not feel comfortable to invite both factions of BNP (in case he is not sure about which faction to be invited) and many Islamic Parties to dialogue even though they have sizable vote bank whereas he is so eager to invite the leftist parties to the dialogue and give so much attention to what they demand notwithstanding the fact that these leftist groups have proven to be completely devoid of any countable vote reserves that those of the office bearers only. It is unethical and unlawful for him to invite both factions of BNP but not so to meet JSD (Inu) and JSD (ROB) – such a mockery!!!!

See what more Mr. Serajur Rahman has to say in his article as attached. Regards. Wohid
