[ALOCHONA] Re: Gen.Moyeen's New Brand of Democracy !

Dear Alochoks

Alochok Hossain needs to stop his prejudices and obvious loyalties
from getting in the way of thinking. Mind you, this is a very common
ailment of Bangladeshis. Rather than focus on abuse (again, a very
common ailment of Bangladeshis) he should try and respond to what the
General said. That's the intelligent thing to do.

I agree with General Moyeen. 36 years of "democracy" in Bangladesh has
brought rampant corruption, criminality, terrorism, violence and an
intellectual chasm in public life that even the Grand Canyon cannot
rival. Lest we forget, this "democracy" has also cost the lives of
millions of Bangladeshis - a death toll much higher than the
Liberation War and one that shows no sign of abating as long as the
evil begums and their sycophants continue to monopolize power.

The question Alochoks SHOULD be addressing is : what form should our
democracy actually take? What form will result in emancipation for our
people? After all, lets be clear - the majority of Bangladeshis are
not free - the Liberation War was a failure from that point of view...

...the war is still going on, only the enemy has changed - from
Pakistani to Bangladeshi.

There are sweeping reforms required to give democracy a chance and the
CTG is making some progress towards implementing these. In fact, this
is the first time any such reforms or positive steps have actually
been taken - well, since the concept of the CTG was introduced into
the constitution!

One last point : Alochok Hossain should explain with examples how
corruption is taking place at a higher scale. This sounds like hot air
to me.

Of course, Alochok Hossain did make one statement that has been true
since 1971 - the gun has and continues to rule supreme in Bangladesh.
The advent of a latter day Ayub Khan would be NO CHANGE TO THE STATUS QUO.

Regards,

Emanur Rahman, UK

his shoulders. Mr Khan introduced basic democracy-a blend of military
and civil wines. Gen. Moyeen is heading towards his Pakistani Master's
vision. I feel very sorry for Prof. Muzaffar Ahmed when he said that
Gen. Moyeen saved the country on Jan. 11 last year. Has the emergency
saved the nation? from what? corruption?it is going on at the same or
higher scale because now the risk is high. Economy already hit the
rock bottom, virtually no diplomacy. There is an exception. We have
achieved a lot by surrendering to India. The General to going to India
shortly to pay respect to his foreign masters in New Delhi. We will
wait to see what he will bring back from Delhi.

Gen.(retd) Ershad. The former has started writing proses but the
latter started writing poems before overthrowing a democratically
elected government. Gen. Moyeen often talk about discipline and
against corruption. Did he take formal permission from the government
to publish his two books which are actually collections of political
Essays? As a government servant (sorry the CTG is a servant of him) If
he did not, it means if you have a gun, you don't need any
permissions. The Gun is mighter than the pen. May Allah save
Bangladesh from these vultures.
