[mukto-mona] Fwd: Thoughts on Ekushe

THE RAMBLINGS OF AN INDIVIDUAL
The mind boggles, or does it?

If you consider the purpose of language, it is first and foremost for communicational needs, which is why it was initially created. So why was such a simple thing as language a reason for demonstration, knowing that it would cause an unyielding and brutal response?

Obviously if you question an act from this cold and emotionless view point everything and anything that is driven by emotion would appear ridiculous. The actions of many on that day cannot be analysed with such a simple and rash question, and even to some the subject matter would seem insignificant.

Language itself has evolved to such an extent that the way we view I had changed, from the time of its birth. It is now an identity for a nation, and expression of freedom, freedom of thought, freedom of expression. It is the unacceptable fact that we were told we could not do the very thing that is the spiritual essence of our nation, and that could never be adhered to under ANY circumstances. Such a regime could never comprehend the significance of that day or fathom its eventual climax.

It is now the duty of those in the present to have these events deeply imbedded into our thoughts, so that we are not ignorant and backward enough to forget. The greatest sin would be to dismiss history, without learning the human lessons it has to teach. If we could achieve this then perhaps we would not be so utterly fallible and hopeless as a species.
