One may agree with Subimal that Atheists and secularists group also
have fundamentalist or even mass-murderer if he/she wants to see the
issue superficially. But in depth study will nullify his point for
sure. One may call Stalin a mass-murderer or fundamentalist,
however, detailed study on Stalin will show that neither atheism nor
freethinking made him the monster, rather his narrow political
ideology and a dogma named, communism. There is no concept of `class
enemy' or `class struggle' etc. in rationalism, atheism or
freethinking. For example Burtrand Russel was a profound atheist, so
as Richard Dawkins. Atheism did not make them a mass-murderer,
where as Stalin, Chausesku, Polpot are -one should ponder why.
Another point is unlike religionists and communists, the
freethinkers do not follow any specific doctrine (like Quran, Bible
etc). Check the dictionary definition of `fundamentalist'.
According to Oxford dictionary, fundamentalism means, Strict
maintenance of traditional scriptural beliefs; According to Chambers
dictionary fundamentalism is - Belief in literal truth in Bible (or
any scripture), against evolution etc. As freethinkers do not
follow any specific doctrine, to relate them with `religious
fundamentalists' is mere extreme and a shallow judgment. Before
engaging in verbal abuse, one should think of the basic teaching of
secularism - it means separation of state from religious rituals
and belief, but equal rights and freedom of all religious rituals –
how can it promote fundamentalism then? Hello??? Yes, one can
still find one or two fundamentalists among secularist group, for
whatsoever reason; however that example can be explained by his
wrongdoing inspired by something else other than secularism. Well if
Still Subimal is not satified, he can keep on looking, I am sure
fundamentalist people can also be found in the domain
of `spiritualism' or even `Buddhism' too which Subimal did not want
to include in the topic of discussion for the obvious reason.
