[mukto-mona] Mr. S. Guha parroting his friends who have disdains for liberals

WRT: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/mukto-mona/message/46859

Dear Mr. Guha:

If you've issues with secularists and liberals, then just say. It
will be better if you could place your arguments with referenced
articles preferably from academic side and sound columnists who are
respected for their erudition. This ploy of parroting some friends
who are illiberal just as you are would not cut the muster.

This is a lie of high order that liberals do not have guts vis-à-vis
the plights of minorities in Bangladesh and India. Long before your
organization came into being I as a liberal had penned many assays
and you just have to Google using my name to view the articles.
Also, Mukto-mona took serious steps publicizing the plights of
minorities in the aftermath of October 1, 2001 parliamentary
election. The record stands on its two feet. Therefore, your
faceless friends are DEAD WRONG about the resolves of many
freethinkers and liberals who had always participated in Mukto-Mona,
NFB forum, and in Drishtipat.

You have all the rights to defend your position no matter how flimsy
they are, but you better be careful to take down liberals to defend
your illiberal and conservative ideals.

Just in the last week the intellectual Guru of American conservative
movement, William F. Buckley Jr., died, but I do not see any deshi
conservative penning any obituary note. In my humble opinion our
deshi conservatives are too overwhelmed by the success of Bush and
Cheney in Afghanistan and Iraq where the U.S. army dropped hundreds
of Daisy-cutter bomb in late 2001 and in late March 2003. But the
same garden variety conservatives do not care to know the
contributions made by Mr. Buckley. This is utterly pathetic. Of
course, with a knowledge base you and your conservative deshis have,
I do not expect much beyond beatification of Ronald Reagan, who was
all show no go. By the way, Mr. Buckley had influenced politically
President Reagan.

If I am allowed to say so, the deshi conservatives in America are
neither erudite not are proficient in English - a deadly
combination. When these people make generalization founded on flimsy
evidence, they make others simply laugh. Gathering knowledge should
not be the sole property of freethinkers and secularists. The
illiberal people could also take part in this exercise as well. I am
of the view that when one learns what the mankind had gone through in
the last three centuries, then he or she will see that while
conservatives tried heart and soul to main the a status quo, it was a
few liberals who propounded to establish a new order. It was those
liberals who helped the humanity chart a new course. Charles Darwin
was one of those human beings.

I personally was influenced very much by Darwin's seminal discovery
in my high school days in the early 1960s right in Dhaka. Think for a
moment if the humankind were not exposed to Darwin's explanation of
the origin of species - what would have happened. America and the
rest of the Europe would be under the sphere of Christianity and you
and I would have a zero chance of settling down in this nation and
vote in every leap year to elect the president. I have my doubts
whether you ever saw any connection between Darwin's seminal
discovery and our coming to America. The freethinkers are shaping
our world constantly, where as the conservatives are trying to
maintain the status quo.

Sincerely,

A.H. Jaffor Ullah
