NBR, banks asked to seize
records of Khoka, family

Anti-Corruption Commi-ssion has asked National Board of Revenue and 11 banks concerned to keep the files and documents relating to income tax and bank accounts of Dhaka mayor Sadeque Hossain Khoka and his family ready for the investigation team to seize them.
The commission’s assistant director Shamsul Alam, also investigation officer of the case filed against the mayor and his family, sent letters to the deputy tax commissioner of the board on April 10 and managers of the 11 banks on Tuesday in this regard, ACC sources said.
The commission needs the files and documents relating to income tax and bank accounts of the mayor and family, who were sued for amassing illegal wealth, for investigation into the case.
The commission on April 2 filed a case with the Ramna police station against Khoka, his wife Ismat Ara, son Ishraque Hossain and daughter Sarika Sadek for acquiring wealth worth about Tk 17.58 crore beyond their known sources of income and concealment of information of assets worth about Tk 10 crore in the wealth statement submitted to the commission.
The letters were sent to the managers of Hatkhola Branch of Agrani Bank, Motijheel Branch of Standard Chartered Bank, Principal Branch of Standard Chartered Bank, Foreign Exchange Branch of Rupali Bank, Motijheel Branch, HSBC, local office of Uttara Bank, Motijheel Branch of Habib Bank, Principal Branch of Pubali Bank, Corporate Branch of Janata Bank, Nagar Bhaban Branch of Janata Bank, Principal Branch of NCC Bank, Motijheel Branch of BRAC Bank, Uttara Branch of Premier Bank and WASA Corporate Branch of Janata Bank.
The sources said account opening forms and statements of the accused will be seized from the banks.
The files and documents will be seized next week, they added.
The sources also said the investigation officer would write next week to sub-registrars for the seizure of land-related files and documents of the accused.
