1. I fully agree with Mr. Ray. Only by a shallow reading and not looking at the Deoband ulama's speech from the historical perspective will one misunderstand Mr. Sikand. In my last post I specifically mentioned three names (the Deoband ulama, Iqbal, and Jinnah) and three corresponding years (1927, 1930, and 1940.) Only the ulama out of these three could think of a nation state irrespective of religions, although he had his Islamic explanation to support his own assertion. 2. Mr. Kamdar has accused that I have made some wrong generalizations. I am not sure how. I am not authority on the history of 1947 partition of India. I mentioned specific historical events. Yes, I made one well accepted generalization: stubborn, narrow minded, shortsighted and power hungry Hindu and Muslim political leaders were responsible for the partition. Obviously Azad, Gaffar Khan, and many others do not fall into these two groups. -SC
