Re: [mukto-mona] Christian Fundamentalism, the Global Crusade and Muslims

WRT: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/mukto-mona/message/48664

"Is it more wrong to believe in the Bible, than to believe in other religious books?"----Kamal Das

1. It is a genuine question indeed. Fundamentalism is fundamentalism----be it Christian one, Muslim one, or Hindu one. Then why does some one single out Christian fundamentalism, some one Muslim fundamentalism and some one else Hindu fundamentalism? Why don't we see a balanced and unbiased critique of various forms of religious fundamentalism in such discussions?

2. We really need to learn how to read and think. Jogindar Sikand's recent article on the Deoband ulema (who in a historic speech in 1927 supported an undivided India and backed his view with Islam as he understood it) angered many in this forum. Looks like these people liked the idea of "one India" but not the Islamic interpretation that the ulema had advanced in support of the same.

3. Jogi's article on his recent visit to Pakistan and his emotionally charged appreciation of the love for democracy that he had seen among the speakers in the conference on democracy in South Asia held in Islamabad also disturbed some people in the forum. It is difficult to understand why some one finds wrong in some one else's praising a positive development in a neighbor.

4. I don't remember having seen any article in which Yogi has praised Hindu or Muslim fundamentalism. Rather a careful reading of Yogi should reveal to the reader Jogi's disapproval of both Hindu and Muslim fundamentalism. It should also be clear that in his hatred list, however, are also included other vices that are nonreligious in nature.

5. Does Yogi consider Christian fundamentalism a special vice? Is it because this religion is the religion of the majority people of today's super power and it is trying to join hands with the state? Is this because he thinks that Christian fundamentalism is playing in the offense while Muslim fundamentalism is playing in the defense?

7. Jogi is a prolific writer. I think he has time to look at the posts that relate to his articles posted in Mukto-mona.

8. I will be looking forward to seeing a response from him.
