Was Socrates wise? Obviously, he was not. He was in favor of despotism.
Some of his followers committed violence. He was considered dangerous for a
democratically elected government. The time of Socrates was after the
destruction of Athens in its war with Sparta, virtually at the sunset of the
Greek Civilization. We have got the trio- Socrates, Plato and Aristotle due
to Alexander the Great (the Smart Alec) of Macedonia. Do the modern
historians call him a Greek? If they hadn't burned the books of Democritus,
he would be considered much wiser than Socrates.
