Re: [mukto-mona] Atten: Dr Sukhamaya Bain

WRT: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/mukto-mona/message/49655

I agree with most of the points made by Dr. Kamal Das here. However, I would criticize both Hindus and Muslims.

The original discussion of where this thread began was Mujib vs Siraj. And my point was that, for Bengal/Bangladesh, Siraj's defeat and murder in 1757 were not as bad as Mujib's assassination in 1975.

I would agree that had the British not come to India, our people today "would all be prostrating towards Mecca." I would add that had the British not come to India, our people would 1) have more of the caste system, 2) treat women more like men's possessions, and 3) be ruled by little kings who would run the kingdoms whimsically, with no respect for the ordinary humans.

As I noted earlier, it does not matter how much material wealth Bengal had in 1757 and how much of that the British stole. The point is that our people would have remained more in the dark ages in terms of the development of human minds, had they been ruled by the nawabs/mughals and by the little local kings.
