Re: [mukto-mona] How did life itself begin?

How did life itself begin? (From: The Columbia History of the World: Edited by: John A. Garraty and Peter Gay)

.....the emergence of the gases in our atmosphere at the beginning is from the interior or by weathering of minerals. It may have contained hydrogen, ammonia, sulfur dioxide, methane, and some other inorganic hydrocarbons such as cyanide (HCN). Volcanic eruptions brought in steam that condensed to water and carbon dioxide. Clouds formed, rain fell, there were storms ... lightning flashed ....

Thinking about this problem, the Nobel prize-wining scientist, Harold Urey, mentioned to one of his student, Stanley L. Miller, that this mixture of materials could be duplicated in their chemistry laboratory. No sooner said than done: they set up a container with the right mixture of gases and subjected them to artificial electric sparks to simulate lightning. In a week a little red liquid started to form; analyzed, this was found to contain amino acids, the basic building blocks of organic life.

Could this be the origin of life on earth? May be.

As per this experiment, God may not be involved in creating life on earth. But, who created all those ingredients, Galaxies, Universes, etc.? Some will say they were there from the eternity. I do not know, and I have no time and expertise to investigate the truth. Until I know, I would like to assign that job to a God. I know God is not the source of the problem. The problem is multiple religions in the name of a God. I know some god-less people, who appear to be a bit eccentric. They are mostly libertarian, and are not guided by any moral boundary. As a result, everything is acceptable to them. I do not think, the world will be better off only with this kind of people. One thing I know for sure, they are not fundamentalist in their believes. As a result, we can live with them happily ever after, which cannot be done with the religious fundamentalists.
