Re: [mukto-mona] Re: To M. Harun uz Zaman

Dear Avijit,

I am amazed that  my views are getting such a strong reaction, as I have held the same views for years.   Is the reaction to my criticism of Dawkins or to my request that we leave the door open for ideas that we have never imagined?

My hope is that science will one day solve the mystery, not only of how the universe came to be but how conditions for a universe arose. Still, in our quest for answers, we mustn't lock ourselves in the box of fundamentalism that disrespects the humans who share this planet with us.

In the interviews that I have watched, Dawkins comes across as someone who scorns any ideas other than his own. It greatly disappointed me to watch a man who holds my a theistic views treat believers as though they are the scum of the earth. He lost many an opportunity to explain what science knows and does not know, at this point in the evolution of man. Maybe he was seeking publicity. It is certainly a way to get noticed.

Perhaps it is a *bad* thing to point that issue but, nevertheless, under the protective cloak of free speech, I must say what I believe.

Please accept my humble apology if I don't embrace all atheists as sole bearers of truth.

And as always thank you for answering my post. I really appreciate the time people have taken to respond to me, even though my views are disappointing to them.

:-)

I was also quite surprised to see Audray labeling Dawkins as
fundamentalist. I don't think such label is correctly applied here.

When Audray utters `scientists have no more knowledge of the, origin
of the universe than a person who believes in God' it baffles me,
seriously! All the painstaking efforts of Stephen Hawking, Alan
Guth, Linde or Vilenkin are then useless! Many prominent physicists
and cosmologists have published papers in reputable scientific
journals proposing various scenarios by which the big bang appeared
naturally out of a preexisting universe that itself need not have
had a beginning. We have scenarios like "The Cyclic Universe"
or `inflationary model' already. Some of the models had recently
undergone a number of stringent observational tests and passed these
tests with flying colors. We are gaining knowledge day by day from
those fruitful researches. Indeed, we have some ultimate mysteries,
but it will be the scientists who will eventually solve those
mysteries, not religionists. To claim scientists are no more
knowledgeable in finding origin of universe compared to religionists
are just mere extreme, even though I am not labelling anyone as 'fundamentalist'.

Lastly I don't think the topic (whether Dawkins was a
fundamentalist or not) is being discussed under correct title here.
I have kept it separated in our blog site:
