I fully agree with and second Mr Khundkar's ideas/proposal 100% -- to the letter. Although, I have my own theories, but unlike many here I hope I have the sanity and maturity to appreciate & recognize the difference between a personal opinion and objective truth, between mere theory/suspicion and fact, between preconcieved notions or beliefs based on pre-determined political leanings or adversity and objective truth, empirical evidence, etc. etc etc. 1. Unfortunately, I think the inability to distinguish between objective fact and personal belief and the tendency to consider both as one and the same is our national character. 2. And also, to treat our own individual or narrow group interests, prejudices, fears and insecurities as of paramount importance and interest practically tantamount to absolute or only truth and reality -- at the total expense or detriment of everybody elses's interests and concerns leading to a high degree of intolerance, callousness, uncompromising attitude, blindness or a large mental blindspot, is another of our national characteristics. The two above are the starting point of all the chaos here in Bangladesh, including the rivalry between the 2 major political parties and between various sections or segments of our society. The same attitude is also quite evident in this forum too! In any case, if we want to survive as a nation and a democracy and overcome major crises like the present one, we need to change this character. I think Mr Khundkar's observatons & suggestions in relation to the present situation provide a sane & practical direction. Yes, I believe Justice Goldstone is a good suggestion -- both for the present crisis and the proposed War Crimes Tribunal or commision. Regards, Ali

We cannot afford another ten years of chaos. If this is not handled fairly we are doomed to repeat the follys of the past. Lastly I dont pretend to have any of the answers nor do I have any power or influence to change anything. Actually I have no facts or data on my hand nor do I have cousins or friends in the know in Bangladesh. ! am just looking at the situation from a 50,000 feet level and none of the discussions so far (except for a precious few) have made any sense. Why do we need help from outsiders in every crisis? Is this an official policy of a certain political party officials and their supporters? Dear Ejaz - what are you talking about. You need to get a grip and hold your personal /prejudices & views on Hasina and Khaleda until this tragic event is played out. There is a lot of disinformation floating around. Wild speculations from RAW to ISI, allegations of corruption, to everything but the kitchen sink. It is is important that an elected govt & all future govts be allowed to serve out its term. You and I may not like dynastic politics or these two women. I am glad Sahara is out of the commission of inquiry but to reconstitute it with Army people, the same people who are going to look for absconding mutineers and also participate in summary trials is not a good idea and is fraught with danger for the country in the long term. it is like making them Judge Jury and Executioner. What we can do is insist on an impartial inquiry headed by people of unimpeachable reputation. if such people cannot found at home we can get them from abroad. Mary Robinson (Frmr UN Human rights Commissioner & President of Ireland) or Justice Goldstone of South Africa come to mind. I hope we come to a peaceful and just end to this crisis.
