This news item below was published in the Daily Purbokone, published from Chittagong. It is on Nandirhat and Hathazari communal frenzy that took place  on last Thursday and Friday. Some of readers of my column published recently in the daily Prothom Alo commented that I intentionally related the incident to the trial of those indicted for War Crimes in 1971.
Other national dailies also carried the news. Purbokone is not AL supporting daily.
Perhaps more truths will be exposed in days to come.
Some of my friends commented that I criticize Shibir/Jamaat because they are Islamist and I am a secular. For them, let me be very clear, I am no less Muslim then they are but I am not a fanatic neither do I subscribe to fascist dogmatic political beliefs. For them, about 25 years back these ICS goons nearly slaughtered my youngest brother in broad day light, in public, and attempted at last  one one assassination on me and hurled  bombs at my family home. My younger brother still carries scars in his throat. I have traveled with Shahid Janani Jahanara Imam, demanding the trial of War Criminals across the country.   Have anyone of you had the misfortune of witnessing someone carrying a chopped of wrist on the point of sword? I did that on November 26, 1986 in Chittagong University. The wrist belonged to Abdul Hamid,  a student leader who first belonged to JCD and later changed and became President of Jatiyao Chatra Samaj. The sword was being carried by Amir Hossain, the President of ICS.  No these are no fictions. I could have gone on but it will perhaps annoy some.  Yes I support AL politics because this party gave us a country, but  also I do not shy away from criticizing many of its decisions and policies in public. We went to liberate out country in  1971 and was witness to what atrocities mean. Half a dozen of my DU teachers were killed by ICS killers under the leadership of Nizami in 1971.  Today I completed 64 years of my life. It has been good and rewarding. I could have migrated to any other country and still can. I refused offer to stay back in US back in 1978. I said no, thank you.  I love my country. I fought for it. It is very easy to comment on what is happening in the country from outside. But the ground reality here is quite different my dear brothers. Sometimes some of the critics lose the sense of decency, which I consider needs to be protected. One reader asked where do the students get arms. In my first talk show perhaps back in 1989 telecast by  BTV I asked the same question to Mr. Nasrullah Khan, the then IGP. I asked him through the serial number marked on arms they can be traced. This was immediately after some student leaders of JCD were arrested with lots of money and arms from Mohsin Hall. The IGP did not answer my question. After the program was over he commented I should not have asked such a question.  Later one of those arrested got a diplomatic assignment and went to Australia and another one became our MP.

If I hurt anyone through my writing, I can always say sorry. However as long as Allah keeps me fit I will keep on saying what I feel needs to be said.

৫০ টাকার বিনিময়ে নন্দীরহাটে মসজিদ ভাংতে রাজি হয় জসিম

মোস্তফা মোহাম্মদ এমরান, আদালত প্রতিবেদক: মাত্র ৫০ টাকার বিনিময়ে হাটহাজারীর নন্দীরহাটে মসজিদ ভাংতে রাজি হয় স্থানীয় রাজমিস্ত্রি জসিম। জনৈক লোকমান ও বিএনপি কর্মী এমদাদ ওই রাজমিস্ত্রিকে মসজিদের সামনের কিছু অংশ ভাঙ্গার কাজে রাজি করাতে সক্ষম হয়। ৯ ফেব্রুয়ারি দিনগত রাতে চুক্তিমতো জসিম নন্দীর হাট সংলগ্ন মসজিদের সম্মুখভাগের বিভিন্ন পিলারের ইট ভেঙ্গে ফেলে।
সকালে স্থানীয় মানুষের কাছে গুজব ছড়িয়ে দেয় অপর একটি ধর্ম বিশ্বাসীরা ওই মসজিদটি রাতের অন্ধকারে ভাংচুর করে। এ-ঘটনায় দুটি সম্প্রদায়ের মধ্যে উত্তেজনা সৃষ্টি হয়। হাটহাজারীর নন্দীর হাট এলাকায় দুটি সম্প্রদায়ের কতিপয় উচ্ছৃঙ্খল মানুষের মধ্যে দাঙ্গা-হাঙ্গামার ঘটনায় দায়ের হওয়া মামলায় গ্রেপ্তার রাজমিস্ত্রি জসিম গতকাল সিনিয়র জুডিসিয়াল ম্যাজিস্ট্রেট মাসুদ পারভেজ-এর আদালতে দেয়া স্বীকারোক্তিমূলক ১৬৪ ধারার জবানবন্দিতে এমন তথ্য দেন।   জসিম ঘটনার বিষয়ে বিস্তারিত বিবরণ দিয়ে অনুশোচনা প্রকাশ করেন। সংশ্লিষ্ট সূত্রে জানা যায়, জসিম শুধু টাকার জন্য মসজিদ ভাঙ্গার জন্য রাজি হয়। ওই ঘটনা যে পরবর্তীতে দুটি ধর্মের মানুষের মধ্যে উত্তেজনা সৃষ্টি করবে সে ব্যাপারে তিনি জানতেন না। গতকাল দুপুরে জসিম আদালতে ওই জবানবন্দি প্রদান করেন।   নন্দীর হাটে মন্দির-মসজিদে হামলার ঘটনায় হাটহাজারী সার্কেলের সহকারী পুলিশ সুপার বাবুল আকতারের নেতৃত্বে ১০ জনকে গ্রেপ্তার করে গতকাল বৃহস্পতিবার আদালতে হাজির করা হয়। আদালত আসামিদের জেল হাজতে পাঠানোর নির্দেশ দেন। এদের মধ্যে রাজমিস্ত্রি জসিম গতকাল আদালতে জবানবন্দি দিতে সম্মত হন।  এমদাদ বিএনপি কর্মী বলে পুলিশ সূত্রে জানা গেছে। অপরদিকে অন্যান্য আসামিদের মধ্যে কয়েকজন জামায়াত ও শিবির কর্মী রয়েছে বলে পুলিশ নিশ্চিত করেছে।
