[mukto-mona] Please help your nation by H.Sayed Washington

 On Behalf Of Hares Sayed
When thousands of our Bangladeshi died and many more are about to die , that very time with heavy hearts we observe that many of our friends are still fighting about the supremacy of their political parties, some are very much engaged in human right issues and some are spending times on speculating about the neutrality of CTG and their various organs.  We are failing to address the major issues of our nation - life and death of our fellow Bangladeshis. Friends do you think that our leaders late Sheikh Mujib and General Zia’s souls are happy to see your nasty politics overlooking the pain of millions?  I don't think so.  I think their souls will get relief if we all put our hands together to meet this challenge.

Friends, I am not suggesting you to forget about your fights on your dearest politics, I am merely suggesting you to put those issues aside for the benefit of our brothers and sisters.  Disaster stricken people are looking for your help, please help them.

It is very sad to observe that till today they are not getting any fresh water, as a result they are depending on contaminated water and very soon we will see the outbreak of waterborne diseases and that might cost hundreds of thousands.  How much time and money the nation needs to install tube wells in those villages? One or two tube wells in each village does not cost crores of taka not does it need weeks to install – it only needs sensible action.  Where are our gurus?  We don’t need to see any photo opportunity sitting under the ceiling of air-conditioned offices – we want to see them in the field.  Sorry friend!!

Regards

Thousands of Bangladeshi died in recent cyclone and many folds more are waiting to embrace the same fate – post cyclone disaster “death” due to lack of food, fresh water and proper treatment.  Many of us are trying to raise funds to show a token of sympathy for the disaster victims, and many international organizations and independent nations pledged a huge amount of relief for these victims. News media are providing sad news about the sufferings of the costal Bangladeshi – shortage of relief, no freshwater, no medicine etc.  There are places where the aid workers could not yet reach due to bad communications and lack of coordination.  Four days been passed and we are hearing the same news.  We the nonresident Bangladeshi all over the world are eagerly waiting to hear the good news but that “good news” is yet to come.
We are watching many daily TV programs but by watching those it is very hard to believe that about 1/6th of the total population of the country are facing a tragedy. Is media is doing their job?  It looks like nobody cares about these poor souls. It is like the same stories as we have seen before –many are not getting food and many political hooligans stole and smuggled billions of dollars from the country. We need to see an end of this situation.
Present caretaker government (CTG), does not matter how honest and dedicated they are, are failing to meet the demand of the day.  Knowing the fact that the disaster will hit the country and the severity of this cyclone will be much more than that of 1991, they have finished their duties by relocating a good number of people to a safe place (definitely I salute them at least for this piece of work).  But they failed to foresee what will happen just after the cyclone. The whole coastal are is full of dead animals and human remains, water has been contaminated, air is filthy – so no freshwater, insufficient food supply, very little coordination. High officials are doing their routine work – attending the meeting and press briefings. Why didn’t they utilize the past experience in meeting this disaster only God can answer that question.  Is it fact that a special group are behind these type of problem so that the CTG fails?
But we, who live abroad love our country and want to see an end of such situation.  We also believe that this will be not the last disaster for Bangladesh, nor it will be the last call for relief.  We need to meet this challenge as efficiently as we can.  This is the national crisis and we all should be united under the national flag by forgetting our political divisions and extend our cooperation for our helpless brothers and sisters.
Please coordinate meetings is all US and other cities IMMEDIATELY, discuss the issue and come up with suggestions and share recommendations among all cities and set action plans.  Definitely we will extend our financial support but question is that how much can we arrange and how good that will be for the nation?  But your good judgments will lead your motherland ahead!!
