Re: [mukto-mona] Re: Mukto-Mona Condemns the Inaction of the Indian Government in Providing Security to Taslima Nasrin

Mr. Kamdar:

I totally agree with what you have written in this
post about India.

As I have written before, it is a shame that India
still has different laws for different religious
groups. There should be no room for religion-based
laws in a civilized country. I said "civilized" as
opposed to "secular", because I believe all countries
in the world should be secular, and respect all people
irrespective of what religion they follow or if they
do not follow any religion at all.

I feel very sad when I see that to oppose a hate group
its still takes another hate group in the world. In
America Bush invoked crusade after 9/11, whereas one
really did not have to be a fanatic Christian to take
the strongest possible action against the terrorists.
In India the Hindutwa BJP talks about a uniform civil
code for the country, whereas the so-called secular
forces should have already adopted that.

Indian society as a whole is still very much an
irresponsible society. Imagine 25% absenteeism by
school teachers from the classroom. Imagine how a poor
family would educate its children when education has
to depend largely on private tutorship. To me, India
is still a third-world backward country. It would take
centuries, not decades, for India to be a developed
country.
