Dear Dr.Ahmed,
It's interesting to note that we want total freedom of expression
from a regime that is ready to sacrifice principles for politics of convenience.
I am still disturbed by events relating to the cartoon of' Mohammad Biral'. You
remember how the whole administration succumbed under the pressure of the
vicious mullahs? An editor of a news paper was compelled under threat and
duress to capitulate in front of the whole world. I remember with disgust and
total abhorrence how the evil mullahs enjoyed the whole shameful episode and a
government was a party to that great insult and shame. Awami League put the Jamat
on the political list and the BNP government pampered them to become an evil
force to challenge our life long values. But the present administration, I don't
know what is their political alienations, is playing safe with the Islamic reactionaries.
After the 'Mohammad Biral' issue the media of Bangladesh
has become scared of the mullahs and self censored their free voice. The
atmosphere will continue like this till the political parties can form a
government and spell out their own policies. Freedom of expression is a
synthesis of human liberty and you need special people to appreciate it. In the
developing nations, this word 'developing' seems to be eternal to me, politics and
morality is a matter of convenience. This is a vicious circle we need to fight
out from that evil guarded by religion.
