RE: [mukto-mona] Senetor Obama is an eloquent speaker, I applaud him

I had been following the campaign of this personable young Black politician since he was running for the Illinois Senator's seat in 2004. On Election Day, 2004, as I was settling down before the TV to watch the results coming in, my doorbell rang. "C'mon up to my place," said my neighbor, E. R. Shipp, a journalist with a column in the NYPost, a Pulitzer Prize winner and a professor of Journalism at St John's College, "I've got a party going with a bunch of friends while we watch the results." Shipp (she prefered being called by that name) was from Georgia in the South, church-going and gregarious, surrounded by other Black social workers, artists, musicians and writers.
That night's misery and wretchedness watching the election returns was indescribable! Who could have possibly guessed that Bush would win when the party started? In the midst of the pall of gloom, there was one glimmer that shone bright in that company I was with: the U. S. Senate seat for Illinois was won by Barak Obama!
Today I remember that night with fondness. Let my memory of that November night in 2004 be a shining beacon for the future. For the Deshi skeptics, here is a Wall Street Journal article:
