[ALOCHONA] Re: Is CTG better than Ershad?

My Dear Friend Shafiq

Well I thought we were passionately fighting but if you think we were
only bickering then I better withdraw fast before you step up a
gear : )

I am a democrat. I can think of no iconic dictator, civilian or
military, anywhere in the world, who I think we should follow. Anyone
believing that the military should lead a nation on principle is
basically a fascist. I don't want Moeen to be in power longer than
you do.

Yes, as the CTG has taken on the duty of political reform we can
blame it for all failures in this area. I can too. But the reason I
stand my ground is that many people keep quiet about AL and BNP while
blaming the CTG only. Don't you think AL and BNP are also responsible
for the failure to reform? You might say they had no scope to reform
because of the emergency – but if there was no emergency the issue of
reform would not even be on the table.

There are two groups of people attacking the CTG today.

One group is open minded and looking for positive change. This group
attacks the CTG because of its failure to fulfill its promises. I
believe now that you are in this group – and I do respect this group.
This group seeks to serve the nation and is more than entitled to be
frustrated.

The second group is closed minded and looking for a return to the
past. This group attacks the CTG because it threatens political
traditions and the political status quo prior to the Emergency. I
have no respect for this group because it serves itself – not the
nation.

I agree with you that the CTG has failed the millions if the Middle
East. I honestly wish it had done a lot more. On the other hand it is
not the CTG that has built up this situation – it is AL and BNP. Here
in Kuwait the CTG has actually fought hard for basic rights for
labourers – more than AL and BNP ever have. The CTG has sought a
minimum monthly wage of KD 50, mandatory health checks, mandatory air
fares etc. Want to bet what will happen when AL and BNP return?

Please don't discard me just because I don't go the bazaar and buy
rice. The honest common man has always suffered, more or less. It's
February and I've already spent 3 weeks in Dhaka. I assure you I have
ample experience of AL and BNP MPs : )

Anyway. I join you in wishing that the honour of democracy in
Bangladesh is restored by the return of Moeen to the barracks as soon
as possible. If you know of suitable replacements for Fakhruddin,
Moeen and the Advisers please name them. I'm open to change.

Any wishes for the high command of AL and BNP? Apart from wishes of
good health : )

May you soon one day effortlessly convince me to chant the name of an
intelligent PM candidate from BNP or AL. InshAllah! InshAllah!
InshAllah!

Take care my friend.
