[mukto-mona] West Bengal communists

"Now, the problem with West Bengal communists is that, they seem to
think that only way they can be communist is by denouncing Hinduism
and dissociating themselves from Hindu culture. To prove that, they
most often go to the other side and promote Islam. That's because, it
is easy to be an atheist, but it is difficult to remove your Hindu
label. This is a constant battle for communist in West Bengal, and
they have to be always vigilant about dissociating themselves from
all Hindu cultures. This is what I call hypocrisy."---------Dr. Jiten Roy

1. That's an over-simplistic characterization of the West Bengal communists. Theoretically a communist is expected to be an atheist. There are non-communist atheists too. Also not all communists in West Bengal are atheists. One may occasionally here and there express his personal belief with respect to religion, but officially they have never preached atheism, 'denounced' Hinduism, or 'promoted' Islam. Every year West Bengal spends crores of rupees to celebrate Kalipuja, Durgapuja, etc. This has never been discouraged by the communist regime. We need concrete proofs from Dr. Jiten Roy to believe that they have dissociated themselves from Hindu cultures. Has he ever visited West Bengal? There are many communists who believe in palmistry, 'guru', or 'peer' even. A communist cohabits peacefully with his non-communist family members.

2. JitenDa, it is not easy to become an atheist. There is the fear of hell. The world is full of uncertainties. Calamities befall a family. Why to take risk? Better believe in God! So, you should respect an atheist if he is not pretending to be an atheist for some personal or organizational benefits and has reached his decision through reasoning. You should not be intolerant to them. Both temple goers and atheists can be scoundrels. Society wants good people. I know you personally. You are a good man. But it seems that you too easily get influenced by political rhetoric and propaganda that attempt to win over the opponents using lies.

3. Are the WB communists above criticism? The answer is, absolutely no. Their socio-economic goals are vastly distorted by their urgency to remain in power. They have goons, they are corrupted, and they appease. In other words, when it comes to remain in power or capture power, they are just like any other political parties in India (or Bangladesh, Pakistan, and so on.)
