Re: [mukto-mona] Pro-liberation politics in Bangladesh could save the contry

WRT: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/mukto-mona/message/47311

For the life of me, I will never understand why Mukti-Bahini, which was about one lakh strong, never organized themselves after the liberation and demanded their fair shares in all spheres of life. Why they never demanded trial for the war criminals until recently? This is what was missing from the political arena. If this was done earlier, there is no way anti-liberation political parties could ever gain any support in Bangladesh. I know, Bangabondhu wanted to start afresh and dismantled mukti-Bahini; he assumed that all Bangladeshi will all get along as Bangalee after the liberation, which was a reasonable assumption. The fact is that not all Bangaldeshi are Bangalee in heart. They speak Begali but follow completely different culture and are guided by an international ideology, which transcends nationalism.

Pro-liberation political parties should have pointed out that anti-liberation forces are against Bangalee Nationalism, which is the cornerstone of this nation, and they are exploiting religion for politics. My observation is that, instead of doing so, pro-liberation political parties started to exploit religion also to compete with Jamat. By doing so they proved that Jamati-politics was right, and thus increased Jamati supporter. Pro-liberation political parties confused the entire generation about the cultural identity of the nation. As a result, middle-eastern culture started to creep into the Bangladeshi culture and pro-liberation political parties started to loose ground.

Good news is that, tide is beginning to change, and I am hoping that, this time, pro-liberation political parties will not repeat the same mistake, they made before. But, you never know, Bangladeshi politics has so far been guided by personal greed, not national interest. As a result, I am not so confident about the same old politicians coming back to power after the forthcoming election.
