Sub: A women's peace rally on 2nd September 2008 from master canteen
square to PMG square at 2.30pm .
Dear all,
We are deeply pained and shocked at the brutal killings of innocent adivasis, dalits, women, children belonging to minority community since 23rdAugust night immediately followed by the inhuman killing of Swami Laxmanananda and four of his disciples by some unidentified persons.
Limitless violence against the minorities, dalits, adivasis by communal forces has been continuing since 23rd night as if there is no end to it. Begin from raping nuns, lynching innocent women,
disable persons and others to burning houses, shops, schools, orphan homes, Churches is going on in an unstopped manner. As of today more than 22 persons have been killed by the fundamentalists. The Orissa Government has severely failed to protect lives and dignity of the citizens who are no way connected to the killing of Swami Laxmananda Saraswati. It looks as if the entire Administration and Police have become helpless, miserable before the'designs'of'the'fundamentalists. There is a complete failure of Governance in the state.
An Update:
1. Nawo, sent a fax to the CM demanding to take adequate steps to contain Violence and provide protection to Christian community .Also sent faxes to all political parties to issue an joint statement appealing for peace.
2. A citizens committee meeting was organized and several actions
were planned.
3. An eight member's delegate of Citizen Committee for Communal harmony in this context met the Governor of Orissa on 28th August 2008 and appraised him about the situation and submitted a memorandum.
4Organized a press conference appealing peace to both the communities.
5.An all women's organizations and individual meeting was organized in which it was decided to organize a all women's peace rally on the 2nd of September 2008 in Bhubaneswar.
We therefore request you to kindly participate in large numbers in the rally and show your solidarity to the victims of this riot as well as appeal to the general public to maintain peace.
