Re: [mukto-mona] Atten: Dr Sukhamaya Bains

I am not bent on carrying out this debate any further. The basic point is
once a land is conquered by a bunch of alien horsemen, whose descendants
remain secluded and form their own society, converts a bunch of people to
increase their political base; the hearts of the whole bunch remain in a
distant holy land and minds set with the leader of a community less than
five thousand strong, the rule by such a group does not become automatically
home grown. I support Professor R. C. Majumder's contention for that
reason. However, I never would say that the British rule was not alien.
But had they not come to India, we would all be prostrating towards Mecca by
now.
Even the mighty later day Mughals had to pay the Ottomans tributes to the
extent of twenty per cent of their earnings. What Muslim rule can do to a
nation was properly understood by Kamal Ataturk, and much earlier by Akbar
and by his great grandson Prince-consort Dara Shikoh. Akbar wanted to create
a new religion by mixing the old, and was ridiculed by the Mullahs that
"Allahu Akbar" meant Akbar is Allah and not Allah is almighty. Dara wanted
probably to discard Islam altogether, and his fate, and earned the title of
apostate. Anyway, the friendly nature of the Muslim rule in India is amply
recorded in "Sources of Indian tradition" edited by Ainslie T. Embree of
Columbia University, and in the writings of Koenraad Elstand others. Europe
had its dark age due to the imposition of Christianity, the root of the dark
age in India may be properly atributed to the decay of Buddhism and the
spread of Islam. As far as I am concerned, there was no such thing as
Hinduism, except that a the peoples on the south of Persia were termed
Hindus by them. Hinduism had always multitude of faiths which coexisted
without much recorded violence.
