Recent Politics and future of Sk. Hasina

Nation is watching series of dramas after the tragic BDR incident. The dramas are happening just when a new and popular elected government started its journey after two years of military backed rule. Below are some of the various interesting observations.

One group is trying to  hold BNP-Jamat and pro Pakistani groups responsible for the Pilkhana conspiracy. They think it's a combined conspiracy of groups having common interest. The major groups are  (1)  Jamat – conspiring for survival against war crime tribunal  (2) 1975 killers – who so far prolonged the execution of  death penalty by favors from BNP government. Now, they are desperate to topple AL government for their survival; (3) BNP – Trying for a come back.  Their extreme misrule, greed and misuse of power made it impossible to be back to power normally at least for some more years.

The other group is trying to blame AL and India for it.  This has been a tradition.  AL was blamed for many incidents like Udichi bombing, self designing the plot to kill Sk. Hasina at Gopalgong during her last tenure, even for 2004 August grenade attacks that almost killed Sk. Hasina and all senior AL leaders. Strangely, India only attacks Bangladesh interests when AL is in power!

Pakistan's president recently sent a letter to Sk. Hasina requesting her not to try 1971 war criminals. Even President Zardari's envoy openly stated in Dhaka that Bangladesh should not pursue the trial now.  How strange and desperate is that?

Right after Pilkhana tragedy, Saudi King invited PM to visit KSA. She cancelled her visit. Why was this special invite at this time? Was it to tell PM that she should not try the war criminals? I am sure most people know that Saudi Arabia is the source of major funding for Jamat.  Saudi Arabia didn't recognize Bangladesh until Mujib was killed. President Mujib  went to visit Saudi King and requested him at least to allow Bangladeshi Hajis to attend Hajj. Saudi King told him to release all Pakistani Prisoners and not to try Jamat leaders if he wanted recognition. Mujib insisted that as muslims, people of Bangladesh have a right to attend the Hajj. King left the room and didn't come back to finish the discussion or to say bye. It is well known that KSA is very friendly to Pakistan and also madam Khaleda.

There has been a news report that four BDR personnel involved in the killing plot escaped to Saudi Arabia via Dhaka airport.  Even the plane was made to delay two hours till those four people arrived and boarded the plane. A very influential person has been behind this. Those four people got their passports recently few days before BDR incident. Per army source, they will be indicted if found guilty in investigation. They also know the person behind this.

Mr. Hafiz, charged for ten truck arms smuggling, in his statement to court has named DGFI and NSI chiefs – two senior army officials as involved.

Sk. Hasina went to army headquarter the other day to address officers of armed forces and also listen to their grievances.  BBC reported yesterday that Sk. Hasina's closed door discussion with army, navy and air force chiefs (at army headquarters) have been disclosed by unknown people and is now available as audio via internet.  In the recent past during army backed government, we saw similar audio CD leak outs. Those were interrogation leak outs of AL leaders Jalil and Sk. Selim talking against Sk. Hasina. Who did those leak outs? Any Bangladeshi kid who reads newspaper knows it was from within the army.

Yes, there was a group in the army who wanted to keep Hasina in exile and put her behind bars. They wanted to destroy Hasina and AL.  BNP-Jamat was in power but most AL leaders and mayors were in jail.  There was open discrimination in their behavior with AL vs. BNP-Jamat. Not only that Madam Khaleda's brother Syed Iskander was not touched, Mujahid openly met with chief of government Fakhruddin when there was warrant against him. He could freely travel abroad and have meeting with Khaleda Zia in prison.

During this tight political situation, Mr. Suranjit sen gupta started talking against his party in a non-party forum! That is pretty interesting if we consider the timing he chose to express his grievances against party and Sk. Hasina.

Suddenly Khaleda zia got back vitality after her huge loss in election. The BDR incident made her vocal and active. She has done a mourning procession but gave provocative political statements on a mourning occasion!

Are there pro BNP-Jamat  army personnel involved with the BDR incident? There are still many senior army officers who were positioned by BNP-Jamat government. Mr. Syed Iskander gave them favorable posting. Even the present army chief was a classmate of his and was made army chief superseding few senior officers. We have seen that loyalty as Syed Iskander was spared during last 2 year's anti-corruption drive.

The leakage of audio conversation between PM and army, navy & air force chiefs in army head quarters tells us that the situation is still grave. There is ghost in the mastered itself.   PM is not getting active support from star politicians in her party. Will she be able to survive this episode?

Thank you,
