KARACHI Jan 8 Asia Pulse - Director of Pakistan's marine fisheries department Shaukat Hussain, managing director of Karachi Harbor Authority (KHA) Shahzad Gulzar and manager of the fishermen cooperative housing society Muhammad Ghazanfer Ali Boota called on the minister of state and chairman of trade development of Pakistan Tariq Ikram here on January 5, 2008.
During the meeting, they discussed in detail the matters pertaining to sanctions imposed by European Union on the export of seafood from Pakistan. State minister and chairman TDAP Tariq Ikram urged the Sindh government to formulate a comprehensive strategy within a period of three months, which would help eliminate the sanctions imposed on the fisheries department. He also highlighted the need to improve the quality of motorboats to European standards adding that 50 per cent of the maintenance charges on motor boats would be provided by the provincial government while the remainder would need to be paid by the motor boat owners.
He added that the National Bank of Pakistan would also provide interest-free loans to the owners of motorboats to help them stand on their own feet.
