When I hear about the call for increased agricultural productivity by the government officials, I wonder, why they never emphasize on the need for the population control? While the agricultural output growth follows the arithmetic progression, the population growth follows the geometric progression. Therefore, agricultural productivity will never be able to match the population growth, unless it is controlled. There is no substantive initiative from governments of that region to launch a campaign for controlling the population. Bangladesh will attain 200 million in 2020. How will they feed them? Enhancing agricultural productivity will not attain self-reliant food supply. Why government is silent on this issue? It's the religion, stupid. No one dares to break the taboo. Antique religion is again in the way of finding a solution to the omnipresent hunger in that region. Well concerted efforts to control population growth and to increase agricultural
output should be the guiding principle to fight world hunger problem.
